The Morrison hotel, which was bought by billionaire Russian businesswoman Elena Baturina earlier this year, is to undergo a €7 million refurbishment.

The 138-room hotel on Dublin’s Lower Ormond Quay closed its doors this week and will reopen in February next year.

The hotel’s lobby and rooms will undergo a complete re-design led by Dublin architect Nikki O’Donnell, with Irish designers featuring heavily in everything from the art to textiles to sculptures.

Robbie Bargh from the London-based Gorgeous Group – whose previous clients include Pernod Ricard, Selfridges and Rhodes Fine Dining – has been brought in to recreate the bar and restaurant areas.

The hotel, which opened its doors in 1999, was originally designed by John Rocha.
