Alice in Wonderland

REVIEW: Alice in Wonderland,7 cert, Disney Interactive Nintendo DS (also Wii) ***

It's quickly apparent that the developers of this game have made a wise decision: Instead of trying to approximate the look of Tim Burton's film (see review, page 11), the animators have created their own style. Simple, witty and elegant, this Alice in Wonderlandlooks like a long-lost animated classic from Eastern Europe. The little character moments are a treat, such as Alice's dance of joy when she finds a hidden bonus, and the bashful body language of the knights when they lose their armour.

Within the limits of the DS, Aliceis a simple and easy platform and puzzle game – too easy for most adults, perhaps, but just right for kids. Principally controlling the kindly rabbit McTwisp, you lead Alice along her surreal adventures, fending off malevolent plants, the Red Queen's knights, and eventually more formidable opponents.

Skipping along the edge between charming and overly cutesy, Aliceshould prove an appealing endeavour for young ones.
