Developing games is a tricky business. There is a certain level of expectation these days, especially when there's a successful Kickstarter campaign and a big name behind the title. That's what Godus faced. Godus not only raised more than £500,000 in crowdfunding to get going, but it's the work of Peter Molyneux (Populous, Fable). The mobile game has polarised fans of the PC version, thanks to the freemium model. For newcomers, the iOS game leans towards the more interesting side of things – if you stick with it. You play God, tasked with helping create and watching over your very own civilisation by manipulating land to save the people who will become your followers. They're searching for the promised land , though they're a picky bunch. Some areas are too small, others too ugly. So you have to smooth the path for them until they find the perfect spot, where they will set up home and breed. As you progress you earn reward cards to expand abilities, but you'll need to unlock them with stickers found throughout the game. That's a bit frustrating, but what really lets Godus down is the controls: tapping and dragging the land doesn't always work as well as it should, and it can get a bit tedious after a while. But stick with it; once your civilisation is more established and striking out on its own, you can have fun with meteors and the like.
