Political power plays on TV - it’s not all about House of Cards

From Irish-American brothers in Rhode Island to French political intrigue, there’s plenty to choose from

You can't move at the moment for Borgen and House Of Cards. But there are plenty of other TV political dramas for any anoraks who find themselves hungry for intrigue in the wake of the general election.

Boss only ran for two seasons, but Kelsey Grammer gives a powerhouse display as Chicago mayor Tom Kane dealing with a degenerative neurological disorder and trying to conceal it from those around him. There are also strong performances from Hannah Ware (sister of Jessie) and Kathleen Robertson.

Brotherhood is also highly recommended. Jason Clarke and Jason Isaacs are superb as Irish- American brothers in Rhode Island, with one a member of the state House of Representatives and other a longtime member of the local mob. Then, there's Spin, a brilliantly made French drama about the people behind the scenes who do their best to make the political intrigue work in favour of their candidates. Garry Trudeau's Tanner '88, K Street about Washington DC lobbyists, the original House Of Cards, The Thick Of It and, of course, the peerless Yes Minister also come recommended.
