BERNICE HARRISON on alternatives to movies and the mall

BERNICE HARRISONon alternatives to movies and the mall

Belfast day out: Belfast's centre is small and easy to get around, and the Sunday in the City programme is designed to get families in for a wander, particularly around the Cathedral Quarter. At the Black Box, on Hill Street, from 1pm to 5pm tomorrow there's a Goblin Market, a child-friendly theatrical event featuring strange "imagi-nimals". At the same venue, from 1pm to 4pm, the Piñata Workshop shows children how to make their own treat-filled piñata. There's no taking the goodies home, though: in true fiesta tradition, the piñatas are smashed at the end of the session. There's also street theatre. From 3pm at Belfast Circus School, in the Cathedral Quarter, the Festival of Fools features acrobatics and magic – and it's all free. Call Belfast Welcome Centre on 048-90246609 or see belfastcity.gov.uk/events.

- The brilliant children’s science museum W5 (w5online.co.uk) has an Easter-themed daily event beginning today. Children get to hatch (well, make) alien eggheads and then, in the museum’s version of traditional egg-rolling, race them across the W5 Egg Racing Galaxy.

- Over at City Hall, Belfast’s version of the London Eye has been dominating the skyline since January, but time is running out for a ride on the giant wheel, as it due to close on April 11th. The views over the city are spectacular.
