12 Days of Christmas

The Luas extension opened this week, which means that the red line now goes down through Dublin’s docklands to the Point. It’s good news for people going to a concert at the O2 – and should also encourage more people to visit the docklands, which is pretty festive this weekend for the start of the 12 Days of Christmas festival.

There’s a market with food stalls selling plenty of appealing things, from hot cocoa to crepes. Other stalls sell small toys, crafts and other ideal stocking fillers.

One of the really atmospheric attractions is a beautifully restored Galloping Horses carousel (right), and there are other fairground rides, too. The 12 days also features festive concerts, including Glór Gospel Choir’s performance at Chq at noon tomorrow.

Santa also has a grotto at Chq this weekend and next, with plenty of elves playing tricks – although bring your own camera, as a framed photo with the man in red costs a whopping €10.
