Go readers tell their travel stories

  • Mary Rainey from Co Derry was one of several readers who got in touch to point out that, unfortunately, some out-of-date information appeared in Go's article on Derry last weekend

The Salmon Leap restaurant has been closed for many years – and was knocked down to be replaced by a rather nasty housing development. I suspect Mal Rogers’s guidebook was very out of date – and guide Gerard was no help.

  • Claire FitzGerald queries the size of an Irish family

I am an avid reader of Go, but unfortunately most of the trips or deals advertised are irrelevant to us, as we are a “normal”-sized Irish family, with four children ranging in age from seven to 15. A lot of my friends complain of the same problem, in that most holidays and hotel deals that are advertised are for the “average” family of two adults and two kids. Is there any chance that you could provide increased coverage of the options available to the larger family, such as by looking into the range of accommodation both at home and abroad that would accommodate everyone, particularly in the area of connecting hotel rooms that would take extra beds?

  • Nuala Smith, a reader from Blackrock in Dublin, sent in a photograph that she took in Seville, in Spain, last month

In the window of a fairly large city-centre travel agency I noticed these two destinations placed next to each other. Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is a big holiday time in Seville. As Salvador, in Brazil, is about five times farther from the city than Ireland is, I’m sure you too will be amazed at the difference in price.
