AIR TRAVEL:NAVIGATING YOUR way through Dublin Airport with a baby can be stressful so the Dublin Airport Authority and Baby Travel Shop have posted a video on YouTube.com to help smooth the way, particularly for first-time parents.
They call it a “short film” but don’t expect a mini-documentary. It’s low on frills and the editing is a bit jerky but there’s some useful information on what you’re allowed to bring on board the airplane for baby.
Baby Travel Shop founder Aisling O’Donoghue, a mother of three small children, appears in the video with her baby son and talks parents through some of the hurdles they’ll encounter at the airport. She approached the DAA after a flood of enquiries from new parents “asking if they could bring their pram through security and what food they’re allowed bring on the airplane. There’s so much to think of when you’re travelling with a child, that many people end up forgetting something or leaving the baby bag in the taxi”.
At check-in parents have to verify the contents of a baby’s bottle by tasting it but are allowed carry sealed pre-made formula on board and medicines like Calpol. There’s advice about keeping all your travel documents in one place, and the options open to you when it comes to transporting the baby’s buggy. There’s also information about baby changing areas at the airport, and where the pharmacies are located.
Parents are urged by airport security man Paul O’Farrell to help small children pack and ensure there are no toy guns or water pistols in their bags and are asked to explain to children that any teddy bears or dolls they bring through will have to be screened by security, “but that we will give the item back”.
