Parts of Brown Thomas on Dublin's Grafton Street have been badly damaged this afternoon after a water main burst.

Shoppers and staff were evacuated from the shop shortly after midday after water began pouring from the first floor down to lower levels, causing millions of euros worth of damage.

The cosmetics hall on the ground floor suffered the worst of the flooding. Three units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were called to the scene.

The cause of the flooding is unknown. There has been building work on the first floor for some time.
