When politics is not a piece of cake

THERE ARE certain things that politicians do not like to be photographed with or near.

THERE ARE certain things that politicians do not like to be photographed with or near.

Clowns for obvious reasons. Ditto fiddles. They go into nervous shock at the sight of a fiddle when there’s a photographer nearby.

Cakes are another problem. Sponge, fruitcake or tart, it matters not.

Fine Gael’s Lucinda Creighton and Simon Harris faced the cake dilemma yesterday morning when they launched the party’s new treaty website at Webfactory in Dublin. It’s a very slick production.

Their hosts laid on a very nice display of special “Vote Yes” cupcakes for the occasion.

Lucinda and Simon proceeded with caution. She quickly handed one to Deputy Harris, who is running the party’s digital media campaign. Simon didn’t hold on to it for long.

Now they’ll have to wait and see whether they have escaped unharmed.
